Versace 2009 Spring Collection

Versace 2009 Spring Collection

I find this outfit from Versace’s 2009 Spring Ready-to-Wear collection to be so stunning. Simplicity appears to be the order of the day, with emphasis on clean, sleek lines and not many intricate details. There is something very city-chic about this Versace masterpiece and I’d wear it in a heartbeat. Read more

Juicy Couture Velour Track Suit

Juicy Couture Velour Tracksuit (Pants - $120, Hoodie - $98)

Juicy Couture Velour Tracksuit (Pants - $120, Hoodie - $98)

With its collection of velour suits, I think Juicy Couture has found the answer to how to wear sweats without looking like a complete slob. In fact, I have yet to see a person whose body these ultra comfortable separates do not flatter.

In addition to the standard long sleeved hoodie and full length pants, the collection also includes cropped pants, mini skirts, shorts, and capsleeve jackets. There is really a style to suit every season and personality.

I’ve owned my suit for almost three years now and I wear it all the time, whether I’m lounging around at home or have to dash out.  I’m amazed at how after so many washes, the velvet still maintains its plush feel and does not show any sign of wear. This is when I begin to see what I’m paying for.

The tracksuits come in a variety of colors–my favorites would have to be the black and plum. If you fall in love with this collection just like I have, you may also like Juicy’s line of terry suits. Also check out the newer generation of velour separates, which up the glam factor by adding the Juicy logo and other graphics to both tops and bottoms.

L’Oreal HIP Kohl Eyeliner

L'Oreal HIP Kohl Eyeliner, $13

L'Oreal HIP Kohl Eyeliner, $13

Eye makeup would be, without a doubt, one of my “deserted island” must haves. I’ll gladly give up the bronzer and the lip gloss if I could just have my trusty black eyeliner. With that said, I’m on a never-ending quest to find that perfect one that requires minimal reapplication.

This weekend I saw an ad for L’Oreal’s HIP Kohl Eyeliner and, of course, could not resist trying it. I’m often cautious of drugstore makeup for a variety of reasons. In the case of eyeliner, I feel that it tends to lack that all-day wear power. However, the HIP collection is part of L’Oreal’s higher priced products, on average marked at $10. So, I decided to give this eyeliner a shot.

The verdict on HIP Kohl Eyeliner: fabulous! It has a a pointed applicator that draws a perfectly sized line that is not too thick or too thin. The applicator is very easy to maneuver, allowing me to neatly connect the top and bottom lash lines at the outer corner without having to press down really hard. The kohl powder leaves a soft, not too defined line  perfect for smoky eyes.

When I use a pencil eyeliner, I always fortify the line with a layer of dark eyeshadow, which tends to smudge after a short period of time. However, after several hours of wearing L’Oreal Kohl Eyeliner, there was minimal smudging.

Because I’m into really intense, pronounced eye makeup, I chose the Black Kohl color. It alsocomes in other colors such as gold and brown, so there is something to suit every eye color and style. Enter the price – $13 – into the equation and you’ve got a winner.

Ahead of the trends: Ashley Olsen

Ashley Olsen

Ashley Olsen

Ashley Olsen appears to always a step ahead of the trends. This photo was taken in 2006, while the dress and leather jacket combo that she’s wearing in the photo didn’t go big until late last year.

Motorcycle Jacket ($249, Bebe)

Motorcycle Jacket ($249, Bebe)

Leather is a great way to dress down and add some edge to more formal, feminine pieces . It’s certainly practical for spring and early summer, when nighttime is still a bit chilly and you need to wear a little something over a dress. The jacket I’ve chosen mimics the length Ashley’s cropped jacket, which is what I think keeps the look from crossing over to the grunge side. I, personally, wouldn’t pay much less for a leather jacket. This is an investment piece that will last you through several seasons, without showing wear and tear like cheaper alternatives would.

Babydoll Dress ($14.50, Forever 21)

Babydoll Dress ($14.50, Forever 21)

At only $14.50, this babydoll dress is a pretty fab find. Its simplicity makes it a blank canvas that screams to be accessorized. A gold bangle and ring, like Ashley is wearing, go really well with white. I’ve picked two pretty ornate rings, but, again, the simplicity of the dress leaves room for endless possibilities.

Pearl Center Flower Ring ($3.80, Forever 21)

Gold and Wood Bangle Set ($9, Claire's)

Gold and Wood Bangle Set ($9, Claire's)

The bangle set ($9, Claire’s) I chose includes a couple of wood ones, which I think work really well with this color palette. The variety of textures in the jewelry provide a nice contrast against the white linen of the dress. With the bracelets and rings, I’d say the necklace is not a necessity. But if it is for you, necklaces made of white shells–perfect for a summer look–are really easy to find, often for under $5. Be sure to pick one up from a boardwalk gift shop next time you find yourself at the beach!

Stealin’ from the Seventies

tom-ford-ft-0003-ford In my case, sunglasses are an obsession–one that I’m willing to spend the money on. The pricier ones better protect your eyes against the sun and I’m not going to put a price tag on my vision. So you guys will probably be seeing many more a sunglasses review from me.

I’m completely obsessed with these aviators from Tom Ford. My friends keep saying that I look like a police officer from the 70’s, but I think they are awesome. They’re not all that feminine and I’m into that for a change.

This is always the pair I grab when I’m sporting a casual look. Key for running errands and other times when I don’t really have time to fuss around with makeup. Tom Ford is a genius.

SOS Spa Strawberry Chocolate

SOS Spa Strawberry Chocolate

SOS Spa Strawberry Chocolate

If I could have just one product in the shower (a horrific scenario, I know!), then SOS Spa’s Strawberry Chocolate 4 in 1 Body Wash/Bubble Bath/Shampoo/Conditioner is definitely the one I would pick.

The smell is sweet without being overpowering. And it doesn’t have that artificial smell that makes me think that I’m covering myself in all kinds of disgusting chemicals. It lathers well and leaves your skin and hair feeling silky soft.

It works pretty well on my hair, although it doesn’t have much detangling power.  But then again, I never really expect that from a 2 in 1 product anyway. When I don’t have a lot of time to mess around with different bottles, I use this magical potion. It is definitely a lifesaver on those “I can’t believe I overslept again” mornings.
