We Love Loungewear

Today, it occurred to me that we’ve hardly discussed the topic of laid-back clothes here on StealThisDress! Of course, we all love rocking the latest and greatest heels and dresses. I also know, however, that every once in a while we have a quiet Sunday spent at home when we want to snuggle up in our coziest clothes. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again–being comfortable in sweats need not mean that you can’t look cute.

If you read my “Splurge-Worthy” review of the Juicy Couture velour suit, then you already know that I am a huge fan of velour separates. Another one of my favorites are pants made of soft jersey–they are SO comfortable. Tube tops, hoodies–the cute choices are infinite. These styles are so fabulous that sometimes I begin thinking that maybe I could settle for this look everyday and ditch the stiletos and micro-minis… Just for a second.

Kate Beckinsale

Kate Beckinsale

Kate Beckinsale

Was anyone surprised when Esquire magazine recently named Kate Beckinsale “Sexiest Woman Alive”? I wasn’t. Ms. Beckinsale is smokin’ hot. (An aside: she is also a fabulous actress. You absolutely must watch “Nothing But the Truth” if you haven’t yet–I haven’t seen such a powerful film in a while.)

What I love about Kate Beckinsale is that she is not one of those celebs whose picture is in the news every other day for not wearing underwear or making a fool out of herself in some other way. She doesn’t need to do those things to get attention; her work speaks for itself.  I think the same could be said of her style. Understated but incredibly sharp, her look is the epitomy of “less is more.”

I love the “actress off-duty” outfit she is wearing in this photo. I usually avoid wearing all black. While black is amazing, I like to break up an outfit with a splash of color via some bright accessories or a non-black garment. However, in Kate’s case, this combination is flawless. She looks stunning if this comfy casual outfit. Making casual outfits look killer is truly an art.

Before I sign off, I wanna tell you guys that I am the proud owner of the Chinese Laundry ‘Tripin’ boots pictured below. And let me tell you, this is one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. Not only are these over-the-knee boots really cute, they are also incredibly comfortable (to me, this is key because I live in the city and walk all the time). It is definitely not the absolute best quality of suede I’ve ever seen, but that’s fine. Suede gets scuffed up quickly, especially given my active lifestyle. The fact that it’s not top notch makes me better about wearing them and not having to “save” them.

Lucky Brand Scarves

The time to bundle up and keep your neck warm is just around the corner for many of us. Here in the Northeast, the air is quickly becoming crisp and chilly. I have a meeting this afternoon and will definitely be wearing a light scarf.

If you haven’t been to Lucky Brand lately, they have some really fantastic scarves right now. Some are warm winter scarves, while others are made of lighter fabrics that will get you through the fall. Without a doubt, the first thing that stands out about Lucky’s scarves is their hippie-esque flavor. If boho-chic is your style philosophy of choice, then Lucky Brand should be your first stop. You can wear these scarves with casual jeans and a tee shirt or use them to top off warmer garments such as blazers and jackets with some much-needed color and pattern.

Samy Hair Care Products

Before I tried the Samy haircare line, I had pretty much lost faith in trying to style my thin, stick-straight hair. Now I look forward to doing my hair every morning.

The Samy line offers a myriad of products for virtually all types of hair. Whether your hair needs texture, straightness, color protection or all-day hold, you’ll find the right tools for your styling needs.

I use the “Fat Hair” volumizing spray and iStyle curl enhancing mousse. What I love is that I don’t have to go to the salon to purchase these and other Samy products. They are available at my local drugstore and are priced in the $7-$15 range. For products whose quality and results rival those used at salons, this is more than reasonable IMHO.

Salon look without salon spending, whenever I want? Yes, please.

Prada Large Butterfly Frame Sunglasses ($245)

The very first “Splurge Worthy” review I wrote was about sunglasses. StealThisDress! is now six months old (woo!) and I’ve decided that it is time we talk about another pair of amazing designer shades.

There’s nothing better than getting the same thrill out of something as you did when you bought it a year ago. For me, the Prada ‘Butterfly’ Frame sunglasses are, without a doubt, one of these treasured items. A year later, I still feel unstoppable every time I put them on.

With a frame whose shape mimics the outline of a butterfly’s wings, these shades are out there. They are definitely not ‘safe’. But as declared by Paris Hilton–who was photographed sporting the Butterfly glasses on numerous occasions–“Life is too short to blend in.” These shades embody this exact style mantra.

You may be surprised to learn, though, that Prada’s butterfly-inspired creation is also practical. The frame is nice and big, allowing me to stay incognito when I don’t particularly feel like facing the world.

Bottega Veneta Fall 2009 Ready to Wear Collection: Bringing the Drama

If you are searching for an outfit that screams DRAMA, look no further than the Bottega Veneta Fall 2009 Ready to Wear collection.

You can definitely still do strapless bustier-style dresses in the fall. All you have to do is throw an elegant pea coat over it. As far as the “no white after Labor Day” rule–it primarily applies to shoes. However, people often get shy about wearing white garments during the colder seasons. But this need not be the case. Just stick with whites when selecting your coat. The result will be a dazzling, winter wonderland-esque ensemble.

Now, on to the accessories. A ruffled purse gives this otherwise sleek, clean look a punch of texture. The lace-up ankle booties (and just a bit of sock peeking over the top) add a touch of vintage femininity. The black, on the other hand, provides the look with edge. Overall, this Bottega Veneta combination is a brilliant mix of several aesthetics.

Take this already unstoppable look to the next level with strong red lips and a vintage-inspired hairdo. Vavavoom!

Olivia Palermo Brings Her Style to “The City”

Olivia Palermo

Olivia Palermo

Did you watch the premiere of The City season 2 this week? I’m really happy that Olivia Palermo stuck around. Not only is she constantly followed by delicious drama that I can’t get enough of, she is also has some serious style. Her look always features the distinctive mark of high fashion, yet is wearable and practical for everyday situations.

I absolutely love how Olivia puts a textured red cardigan over a simple black dress. It not only adds a great texture contrast to the look, but can also tone down a revealing dress without sacrificing style. The red element is echoed through the use of shiny red shoes. Be sure to choose a darker, sophisticated shade of red if you worried about looking like Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz.

Throw a skinny belt over the cardi to give the outfit more structure. Finish with a beige, nude or brown handbag, which stands out nicely from the rest of the color palette without creating an overwhelming effect.

Pumps With Color

Just when I thought platform heels couldn’t get any better, these clever designers went and made the platform a different color from the rest of the shoe. Basically, an instant way to add splashes of color to whatever you are wearing. I’m currently in the process of deciding which of these fabulous Aldo pairs to snag for this weekend’s festivities.
