Saying that the Chanel fashion house requires no introduction would be the understatement of the century. I don’t want to repeat that which has already been said countless times and go on and on about the timeless appeal of the Coco Chanel style philosophy. My words would not do it justice. Instead, let’s dive right in and channel a look from the Chanel Spring 2010 ready-to-wear line.

Black Friday (or Black Wednesday for me)

Happy Thanksgiving, fellow fashion addicts! It is no surprise that during  the last week, my house has been bombarded with catalogs, coupons and other mail promotions for the post-Thanksgiving sales. By yesterday (Wednesday), I couldn’t take it anymore. I just had to go shopping and here is what I ended up with:

Red and White Rasolli Rainboots, Writer's Own

Blue cardigan and safari print scarf, Writer's Own

Clearly, I was feeling quite inspired by color! Probably because the weather was extra gloomy.

Now I’ve gotten it out of my system and don’t have to be up at the crack of dawn on Friday, getting trampled at the stores. No, instead I’ll be at my laptop, checking out all of the crazy deals online and, hopefully, posting some of my favorite finds. Happy Turkey Day!

Frederick Fekkai Technician Color Care Mask

Frederick Fekkai Technician Color Care Mask ($35, Sephora)

Frederick Fekkai Technician Color Care Mask ($35, Sephora)

Girls who dye their hair, meet your new best friend. It is always frustrating to see your color lose its shine and vibrance as it begins to wash out, starting about a month or so after you get it dyed. The Fekkai Technician Color Care Mask is a conditioning treatment that you apply for three minutes and then rinse off. Three minutes later, your hair looks rejuvenated, feels extra soft and, most importantly, looks like you just got it dyed.

I dye my hair every 3 months and use Technician Color Care once every couple of weeks to maintain the color. I definitely notice that regular use of the product helps me get more mileage out of my color. So, while $35 may seem overpriced for a conditioner, all I have to do is figure in the money I save by not having to go to the salon for a touchup to see that Technician Color Care is definitely a good investment.

Alexis Bittar Jewelry

Alexis Bittar 'Dust' Crystal Earrings ($225, Nordstrom)

Recently, I’ve been skipping large statement jewelry and wearing small pieces that are more classic. But every once in a while, I go through phases where I want to rebel and wear something that is big, bright and will definitely attract attention.

If you crave colorful, candy-like jewelry, look no further than Alexis Bittar’s Lucite pieces. In layman’s terms, Lucite is a smooth material that closely resembles both plastic and glass. Using the pieces in the most luscious colors and sprinkling them with crystals, Alexis Bittar makes these yummy little goodies look good enough to eat.

Wristlets: Every Partygoer’s Must-Have

November 20, 2009 by

I’ve suddenly realized how irritated I get every time I carry a purse when I’m out at crowded parties or clubs. Be it be a big clutch or a small shoulder bag, it gets pulled every which way each time someone brushes past me and gets in the way while I’m dancing. As a result, I am now a huge wristlet fan. These convenient “mini-wallets” as I like to call them provide just enough space for my credit cards, cash, ID and keys. Whether I use the strap to wear it around my wrist or put in my pocket, it doesn’t get in my way–cute AND convenient!

Essential Winter Clothing and Accessories

SnowflakeIt may not feel like it here on the East Coast–where we have been lucky enough to have sun and temperatures in the high 60’s during the last two days–but winter is right around the corner. With all of the holiday parties and other events going on, don’t wait til the last minute to get the winter must-haves that any fashionista should stock her closet with.

.

Item 1A cozy knit sweater. Choose one in white; this traditional winter color is a great way to visually reduce the ‘bulk’ effect of chunky knits that help us stay warm.

Women's Open-Weave Sweater, Marshmallow White ($34.50, Old Navy)Women’s Open-Weave Sweater, Marshmallow White ($34.50, Old Navy)

Item 2

Tweed pants. This is a particularly wise choice for those who work in an office setting, since these stylish pants look great with dressy sweaters and blazers.

Tweed Trousers ($69.50, Gap)Tweed Trousers ($69.50, Gap)

Item 3A wool trench coat. For those of you who are put off by the word “trench”, just remember that we are essentially talking about a belted pea coat. Opt for one in traditional colors such as white, red and black or one featuring a pattern such as houndstooth or plaid if you really want to make a statement.

Wool Trench Coat ($34.99, Charlotte Russe)Wool Trench Coat ($34.99, Charlotte Russe)

Item 4A chunky scarf. Pashmina-style scarves are great but not always the best solution for really cold weather. If traditional, heavy knitted scarves give you flashback of your mother bundling you up when you were five, fear not. Wearing this accessory does not mean you must give up style. Just remember to stick with a dark, muted color palette.

Thermal Stitch Scarf ($39.50, Express)Thermal Stitch Scarf ($39.50, Express)

Item 5Solid gloves. It may be tempting to buy those thin, flimsy knitted gloves at $10 for 3 pairs, but think about the end of the season. These gloves will be dirty and coming apart at the seams, not to to mention that they rarely provide adequate protection against real cold. Invest in a suede or leather pair, which will not only look more sophisticated but also maintain its quality and appearance much longer.

Suede Gloves ($29.50, Gap)Suede Gloves ($29.50, Gap)

Item 6A beret. Wear your favorite pompom beanie for sledding or when walking to the gym, but pair dressy or work outfits with a beret. Knit Beret ($19.50, Gap)Knit Beret ($19.50, Gap)

Vera Wang Lavender Label Fall 2009

Vera Wang Lavendar Label Fall 2009 Ready-to-wear Collection

It seems like there has never been a better time to check Vera Wang’s Lavender Label, which the designer extraordinaire dubbed as being recession-proof. I’m still saving up for a few pieces from the line and am using its Fall 2009 collection as inspiration in the meantime.

I often shy away from wearing fancy dresses for non-work related daytime occasions for fear of looking overly dressed up. The Lavender Label combo pictured here reminded me that dresses during the day is a totally feasible look. All you have to do it toughen up the look with a jacket and pair of motorcycle boots (or riding boots if buckles and other hardware are not for you.)

When choosing a jacket, resist the temptation to put on an ultra feminine blazer with ruffles or other delicate details. No, this look calls for something more androgynous, more along the lines of a boyfriend blazer or simple tailored jacket with minimal accents. Lastly, top off the ensemble with a chunky statement necklace.

For more Vera Wang duds at relatively affordable prices, head over to Kohl’s, which carries her other line, Simply Vera.
