Jessica Simpson 'Fancy Love' Fragrance ($49-$59)

If you’ve been following us for a while, you know that I’ve never done a perfume review before. I absolutely love perfume and don’t leave home without it under any circumstances. I shy away from covering fragrances because when it comes to eloquently describing a scent like so many beauty writers brilliantly do, I’m at a loss for words–no pun intended.

Jessica Simpson’s ‘Fancy Love’ smells so good that I had to tell you about it. Well, I’ll take a stab at trying to describe it: it’s musky with some subtle floral notes. There, that’s the most literary creativity you’ll get from me. But seriously, though, Fancy Love is irresistible. There a lot of perfumes that I love but have to be in the mood for. Fancy Love, on the other hand, I know I’ll wear whenever and whatever the weather.

As always, I really appreciate how reasonably priced Jessica Simpson’s products are. And how pretty is that bottle?!

Pop quiz! Without cheating by looking at the labels, can you guess which of these bags costs more $1,000 and which one is about $60? Hard to tell, isn’t it? Who knew “spot the difference” could be so good for your wallet!

Say what you want about the Olsen twins, but they have earned every last bit of their fame and success. They are only 23 and have already built a huge empire, including the genius Elizabeth and James clothing line. They have some really fabulous stuff; one of my recent favorites is the Reina Suede Button shoe.

Suede shoes are unbeatable, in my opinion. Feminine and elegant, they have a more refined look than do leather pumps. The Reina shoe uses a super simple concept–little dots–to create a stunning design. I’d wear it to work with a cute dress or on day off with jeans and a sweater.

And isn’t it always the simple designs that are best? Yes, especially in these times.  They are versatile, allowing you to pair them with almost anything in your wardrobe. The Reina Suede Button shoe is no exception.

GoJane.com, a Must-Visit Site

Suede Zipper High Heel Boot ($22.99, www.gojane.com)GoJane.com is an online clothing and accessories retailer that should be part of any budget-conscious fashion lover’s arsenal. The shoes are, by far, my favorite thing at GoJane. If boots are your footwear of choice, let’s just say that you may never want to shop anywhere else again after you see the inventory at GoJane. I’m going to leave it at that and let you be the judge when you check it out. Stud Embellished Suede Finish Boot ($24.99, www.gojane.com)

The site also has some seriously fabulous deals on selected items–I want to say every week, but don’t quote me on that. This week, for example, you can get a long-sleeved V-neck t shirt for $4, some dressy tops in the $6-$14 range and sweater boots that look very similar to Cardy Uggs for $14.99.

So, have a look. This site is really a gem. I heard about it through another blog and have been hooked since.

Celine Pre Fall 2010: Not for the Color Shy

Looking at this stunning outfit from Celine’s Pre Fall 2010 showing, I would never guess that this fashion house started in 1945 as a made-to-measure shoe business for children. I absolutely adore Celine and am issuing a disclaimer that our next Off the Runway segment may also focus on Celine because I saw about a dozen other looks in this collection that I would love to feature.

Replicating this solid-colored ensemble is a piece of cake; just throw on a long-sleeved black mini-dress, red footed tights and red Mary Jane’s.  But don’t be fooled by this seemingly simple combination; red and black make a bold duo that immediately pops. Picking out the right combination of shades is key. Opt for dark crimson red tights; when choosing shoes, stick with a lighter shade of red that has more orange undertones to it.

(Tangent: Doesn’t this look totally remind you of Kate Spade? I’m not sure if it was a seasonal thing or more of a branding effort, but this fall one of the Kate Spade ads featured red tights AND all of the staff members were wearing them when I went to the Kate Spade store during the holidays.)

Given the intensity of the colors, stick with a simple hairstyle. Try a ponytail with a side part, flat ironed tresses parted straight down the middle or some soft waves. When it comes to makeup, once again–less is more. Emphasize just one feature by pairing a strong red lip with just a bit of liner and mascara. Or you can do a smoky eye with a nude or sheer lip.

Twilight’s Ashley Greene: Who Knew Vampires Could Look So Good?

Ashley GreeneI’ve realized that one pop-culture phenomenon that we’ve never mentioned on StealThisDress! is Twilight. I watched the first movie and really liked it. But I’m definitely not one of those obsessed fans. When I read on Perez about how the cast was once again mobbed by hysterical teenyboppers or the latest speculation about the romance between Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, I usually zone out. The one Twilight star that I do love, though, is Ashley Greene.

A combination of white, cream and champagne tones is a beautiful choices for brunettes or ladies with a darker complexion. There is something undeniably angelic about this combination. If you choose to wear these colors, you gotta accessorize your outfit with gold jewelry. That’s just an unwritten law, in my opinion. If you want to literally glow, this is the color palette you should be working with.

As for Ashley Greene, talk about stunning natural beauty! I really hope she gets more screen-time in the rest of the Twilight series.

Ruffled Tops: Don’t Underestimate Them!

I’m really happy that ruffles have made a come-back. Just a few years ago they were considered a granny-like faux pas. Wear them with cardigans. You be thinking “But isn’t that even more granny?”; the answer is no. Top off the look with a belt that has some tough metallic accents and you have perfect balance. For a bolder look, I love pairing ruffled tops with a fitted leather jacket and statement jewelery. Ruffles–can’t get enough of ’em.

Wear Blue for the Oceans Day is today, woot! Hopefully my previous posts about this event have inspired you to show your support for this cause. Where I am there is a special rally today, unfortunately I won’t get to attend *sigh*. Life of a workaholic, you know how it is. But, obviously, I’m wearing blue today and I’ll be at the event in spirit.

Sally Hensen Salon Nail Polish

Sally Hensen Salon Nail Polish

Sally Hensen Salon Nail Polish

It is rare to go to a drugstore these days and not see Sally Hensen products in the nail polish section. From strengthening treatments to “hard-as-nails” color durability, the Sally Hensen line has a nail polish for every need. I recently tried one of her “Salon” polishes, which I didn’t even know I had, and was so happy that I did!

My nails are quite weak and are prone to breaking. Over the years, I’ve tried a lot of polishes that promised to make my nails stronger but ultimately found that only a professional manicure could adequately protect my nails. Now I see why this Sally Hensen collection of polishes is branded under the name “Salon.” It was as if I’d had a salon manicure. I removed the color after about 5 days and was surprised to see that my nails looked much healthier and had grown.

If part of your “recession-tastic” plan to cut costs includes indulging in manicures less frequently, I highly recommend you try these nail polishes. I had trouble finding the exact price online but I do know that the “Salon” collection falls into the same price range of $6-7 like other Sally Hensen polishes. Not bad!
