Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2010 Ready-to-Wear: Recreating the Look

Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2010 Ready-to-Wear Collection

The Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2010 ready-to-wear show was truly a feast for the eyes. The best way to describe it would be an explosion of rich textures and patterns, including velvet, lace, tweed, florals and animal prints. Your mother probably always told you to never wear these together at the same time; D&G brilliantly defies this style principle.

Layering is a recurring theme in this collection. Never afraid to push the envelope, D&G had models marching down the runway wearing black blazers with nothing but lingere-like leotards underneath. While I’m not suggesting you don one of these combinations for your next outing, there are a number of other looks from this collection that translate perfectly to the everyday setting.

You’re probably thinking right now, “Where am I going to find a gorgeous D&G-esque silk yellow dress with black lace accents?” This is where creativity comes in. Simply throw a black lace or delicate crochet scarf over a super girly yellow dress and you’re good! Complete the look with semi-opaque tights, a black tote and pumps.

Crazy for Chloe (Fall 2009 Ready to Wear Collection)

Chloe–the French label always at the pinnacle of style and luxury while constantly reinventing itself and pushing the boundaries.

The outfit to the left is gorgeous, but you’re probably saying to yourself “How can I make this high fashion look wearable for my everyday life?” The answer lies in finding pieces that have a similar color palette to the Chloe outfit but with slightly tamer lines. For example, choose a blazer and top whose colors mimic the navy and light pink used by Chloe–but also have less ruffles and frills and a more form-fitting silhouette.

Think about what makes the outfit what it is. To me, what stands out the most is the combination of gold and navy, so I would definitely look for a gold belt to wear with the blazer. Adding a belt over a blazer is not something I’ve ever really experimented with, but since structure is always big in the fall, I think now is the perfect time to do so.

This post got me thinking about whether all couture is truly wearable for us common folk. After sleeping on this question, I’m ruling that yes, it is. Maybe not in its exact original form, but it is always possible to borrow an element from the runway that you love, modify it to suit your style/body shape/preferences and you’re good to go. After all, fashion is about imagination and creativity.

Will Work for Pianegonda Jewelry

Confusion Necklace ($998, Pianegonda)

Confusion Necklace ($998, Pianegonda)

Yes, the necklace pictured on the left costs almost $1,000. What can I say? Pianegonda is one of my favorite jewelry designers of all time and this love of mine comes with a hefty price tag–literally.

Connection Rings ($250, Pianegonda)

Connection Rings ($250, Pianegonda)

Pianegonda’s line is divided into several themes. Examples include the keys, hearts and crosses combination featured on the ‘Confusion’ necklace and the circular elements that dominate the “Circle Light” and “Connection” collections.

There is something very futuristic in a lot of Pianegonda’s designs. Modern and abstract are the first words that come to mind, so don’t expect to find angel pendants or flower brooches in his collection. With that said, many of Pianegonda’s pieces are especially relevant in this year of geometry-inspired jewelry

At several hundred dollars a pop, rest assured that the quality of the work is superior, as it should be considering the price tag. Keep in mind also the fact that Pianegonda’s work has a unique look that is difficult to confuse with that of many other fine jewelry designers. In fact, my Pianegonda pieces are the source of more compliments, comments and questions than any other jewelry that I own.

Irregular Choice Bracelet ($465, Pianegonda)

No, this is not exactly recession-friendly jewelry. It is simply stunning jewelry. And such a splurge is exactly what you need sometimes. Even if it means putting the good old piggy bank back to use.

Milani Cosmetics

Glossy Tube ($4.99, Milani)

Glossy Tube ($4.99, Milani)

Don’t you love it when your makeup looks so good that everyone thinks you must be using designer products? If so, then you have got to try Milani cosmetics. With everything from bronzer and foundation to lip gloss and nail polish, this collection has all the bases covered.

If a friend of mine hadn’t pointed out the Milani stand at our local pharmacy to me one day, I would have never thought to try this brand. I’m usually very reluctant to try new a makeup product once I’ve found one that suits me. However,  since then, I’ve tried almost the entire Milani collection and love every product. The colors are gorgeous and do not wear off quickly.

My favorite item is the Glossy Tube–lip gloss that not only stays on for hours but also has a yummy berry smell. The entire line is very reasonably priced, with approximately $10 being the most you’ll pay for an item. You can find Milani products at your local CVS, Walgreens ,Target, WinnDixie or drugstore.com
