A Kiss of Shimmer Lip Care ($2.99, Nivea)

A Kiss of Shimmer Lip Care ($2.99, Nivea)

I love having a whole bunch of lip balms in my makeup bag and alternating which ones I use. I bought Nivea’s A Touch of Shimmer because I thought it would hydrate and soften my lips while adding a subtle pink shimmer. The verdict? I was really disappointed and eventually ended up tossing it.

The moisturizing effect does not seem to last more than about 20 minutes and actually ends up making your lips feel dryer than before. What’s even worse is that if your lips are even slightly chapped, bits of shimmer stay within the grooves in your lips even after you think you’ve wiped them clean–not a pretty sight. Definitely not worth your $2.99, IMHO.

Palmer’s Lip Butter: Beauty on a Budget at Its Best

Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Lip Butter Dark Chocolate & Peppermint ($1.99, www.drugstore.com)

Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Lip Butter Dark Chocolate & Peppermint ($1.99, www.drugstore.com)

Palmer’s cocoa butter skin products are second to none, in this beauty addict’s opinion. It’s that good, you ask? Yes. So good that my friends and I would always stock up on Palmer’s  during visits home before heading back to college overseas, where Palmer’s products were not available.

I still squeal with delight every time I cover my lips in Palmer’s Lip Butter. It provides dry lips with instant relief in the form of a velvety-smooth ointment that has a hint of shine to it. What else do I love about it? For someone who is so sick of the artificial strawberry scent so common in today’s lip treatments, it’s refreshing to finally see some  ‘grown-up’  flavors–Dark Chocolate & Peppermint and Dark Chocolate & Cherry.

Palmer’s Lip Butter is probably the most budget-friendly product StealThisDress! has reviewed yet. At $1.99, it truly deserves a rating of 5 luscious lips!

Guerlain Kiss Kiss Liplift

Guerlain Kiss Kiss Liplift, $30

Guerlain Kiss Kiss Liplift, $30

I have always used eyeshadow primer but had no idea that a base for lip gloss and lipstick existed as well–until I tried the fabulous Kiss Kiss Liplift from Guerlain.

Liplift evens out the grooves on the surface of your lips, allowing you to achieve a very smooth application of color afterward. For this exact reason, I always used to prep my lips with balm before putting on lip gloss. But now that I’ve tried Liplift, I think I’ll take five from my chapstick.

Two more noteworthy benefits of this product. First, it does not dry out your lips. Second, it helps your color last longer, which is a sign of a good priming product.

The “lift” part of the product’s name suggests that it also plumps your pucker. I can’t say that it dramatically plumped my lips, but I did notice a small difference. What sold me on Liplift is how much it improves the appearance of your gloss or lip stick. For that reason alone, I say this Guerlain goodie is a must-have.

Let me know if you have any other tips for making your lip gloss or lipstick stay on longer!
