Pumps With Color

Just when I thought platform heels couldn’t get any better, these clever designers went and made the platform a different color from the rest of the shoe. Basically, an instant way to add splashes of color to whatever you are wearing. I’m currently in the process of deciding which of these fabulous Aldo pairs to snag for this weekend’s festivities.

A year and a half later after she wore it, Leighton Meester’s ensemble from the 2008 Versace Menswear Launch is still one of my favorites. It offers a brilliant interpretation of the ‘less is more’ philosophy that will never go out of style. Read more

Audrina Patridge
Say what you want about The Hills, but I still tune in every week to see what the ladies of MTV’s LA-based reality show are wearing. Of all the cast members, Audrina’s style would have to be my favorite. Every time I see her, she manages to look comfortable yet incredibly stylish. Read more

Ahead of the trends: Ashley Olsen

Ashley Olsen
Ashley Olsen appears to always a step ahead of the trends. This photo was taken in 2006, while the dress and leather jacket combo that she’s wearing in the photo didn’t go big until late last year.

Motorcycle Jacket ($249, Bebe)
Leather is a great way to dress down and add some edge to more formal, feminine pieces . It’s certainly practical for spring and early summer, when nighttime is still a bit chilly and you need to wear a little something over a dress. The jacket I’ve chosen mimics the length Ashley’s cropped jacket, which is what I think keeps the look from crossing over to the grunge side. I, personally, wouldn’t pay much less for a leather jacket. This is an investment piece that will last you through several seasons, without showing wear and tear like cheaper alternatives would.

Babydoll Dress ($14.50, Forever 21)
At only $14.50, this babydoll dress is a pretty fab find. Its simplicity makes it a blank canvas that screams to be accessorized. A gold bangle and ring, like Ashley is wearing, go really well with white. I’ve picked two pretty ornate rings, but, again, the simplicity of the dress leaves room for endless possibilities.

Pearl Center Flower Ring ($3.80, Forever 21)

Rosette Rings Set ($3.80, Forever 21)

Gold and Wood Bangle Set ($9, Claire's)
The bangle set ($9, Claire’s) I chose includes a couple of wood ones, which I think work really well with this color palette. The variety of textures in the jewelry provide a nice contrast against the white linen of the dress. With the bracelets and rings, I’d say the necklace is not a necessity. But if it is for you, necklaces made of white shells–perfect for a summer look–are really easy to find, often for under $5. Be sure to pick one up from a boardwalk gift shop next time you find yourself at the beach!
