Word is that the jean jacket is making a comeback. At first I wasn’t sure how I felt about this. When I think of  denim jackets, I picture middle aged men wearing them with ripped jeans and white sports sneakers, circa 1990. But recently, many celebs have been sporting them–Kim Kardashian and Jessica Simpson just to name a couple.

But the more I think about it, I think the jean jacket could be one of my new favorite items. The trick lies in finding one that has a flattering fit. I’d suggest a jacket that fits snugly and ends above the waist to help avoid that grungy, baggy look. Of all the brands I’ve seen, I think Guess has provided some of the best looking solutions. Granted, Guess jackets can be a bit overpriced, however their products are super stylish and they last, making it a worthwhile investment in my opinion.

But you also need to consider what to wear it with. Jessica Simpson‘s recent combination of a cropped denim jacket and maxi dress is definitely a winner. Since I’m totally in summer mode right now, I’d also go for a blue denim jacket with white capris or shorts and a bright colored top.

For that ultra-comfortable look that I’m such a big fan of, try flip flops, 3/4 leggings and a long tank underneath the jacket. For fall, you could definitely wear it over a short sweater dress and leggings for that cute layered look. If you are not feeling the jean jacket trend at all, go for a leather motorcycle jacket, which is sexy and a bit more edgy than its denim cousin.

What do you guys think about the comeback of the jean jacket?

I was convinced that denim jackets were a thing of the past! The more tailored ones look pretty good though.

  2. I am totally embracing the cropped/ tailored bleach denim jacket atm – I love the look with maxi dresses and floral prints – Fabulous site! 🙂

    Hi, all.

I am all for the comeback of the jean jacket, why not? I don’t know if my input is valid though because I still rock the headband whenever possible :).

I was a bit skeptical as well, but found one at Madewell that’s adorable! It’s the perfect color (lighter, but not too light!) and has just the right amount of distress to it! I LOVE IT.
